World No. 1, Jannik Sinner withdraws from US Open with knee Injury

The US Open has been dealt a major blow as Jannik Sinner the world No. 1 announced his withdrawal due to his right knee problem, after resuming hard-court training in Monte-Carlo.

It will be a huge disappointment for the Italian, who was hoping to return to New York after his title in 2024.

“I am obviously very sad and disappointed”
“Despite the hard work done with my team and medical staff, we had to take the difficult decision to withdraw from the US Open this year. New York holds a special place in my heart. I was really looking forward to returning to play in that electric atmosphere, in front of a wonderful crowd,” Sinner explained on his X account.

The Italian champion must now continue his recovery without rushing his return to competition.

His withdrawal comes after his retirement from the Cincinnati Masters 1000, also due to this right knee problem.
