Team Nigeria’s men’s 4x100m relay team has been stripped of its silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after Canada’s successful appeal against its disqualification, resulting in the Nigerian quartet being downgraded to bronze.
The Nigerian quartet of Favour Ashe, Kayinsola Ajayi, Nicholas Fakorede and Udodi Onwuzurike had been awarded the silver medal despite finishing third in the event’s final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) after Canada, which finished second, was disqualified over an alleged lane infringement.

Canada clocked 38.11 seconds behind only the Australian team that took the gold medal for the event and were already jubilating in the mixed zone when their initial disqualification was announced.
But the Canadians appealed the decision afterwards, and the process stalled the event’s medal presentation. The appeal was upheld a few hours later, and the CWG organisers have updated the official website.
So far, Team Nigeria has won 23 medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games: ten gold medals, six silver and seven bronze.
