A Nigerian youth has stirred reactions online after sharing his views on how some citizens interact with police officers under the leadership of the new Inspector General of Police, Disu.
In a video, he argued that while the police have become quicker at punishing rogue and errant officers, it does not give civilians the right to allegedly harass or intimidate officers carrying out their duties.
According to him, many young people now bring out phones to record police officers immediately they see them, sometimes without provocation, in what he described as an attempt to intimidate officers on the road.
He maintained that a police officer carrying out lawful duties should not be threatened by cameras, stressing that recording an officer does not automatically mean they will stop doing their job or let someone go.
The youth added that police officers are not slaves but public servants, saying citizens should remain guided in how they engage with them despite recent disciplinary actions against rogue officers.
