Lagos govt reacts to viral textbook video, says material is not approved

The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has responded to the viral video showing a controversial passage in a nursery school English textbook.

In an official statement, the Ministry said the book in question is not among the approved or recommended materials for use in public or recognised private schools in Lagos.

According to the statement, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has ordered an immediate investigation. Preliminary findings reportedly traced the school featured in the video to Ojo Local Government Area.

The Ministry added that both the school and the publisher have been identified for further action, stressing that only government-approved, age-appropriate, and morally sound materials are permitted in schools across the state.

This development comes after a mother raised concerns online about a disturbing passage in her 5-year-old child’s textbook and later alleged she was being threatened over the video.
