Governor Fintiri confirms terrorists attacked Adamawa community and kill ’29 villagers’

Governor Fintiri confirms terrorists attacked Adamawa community and kill ?29 villagers?

At least 29 people have been killed after suspected terrorists attacked Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, according to local authorities.

Reports indicate that the attackers stormed the community late on Sunday, carrying out “sporadic shootings for several hours, killing residents and destroying property,” as cited by Reuters. The governor of the state, Ahmadu Fintiri, confirmed the death toll during a visit to the affected area, describing the incident as “tragic and unacceptable.”

In a statement shared on X, Fintiri said: “My heart breaks for the people of Guyaku in Gombi LGA. Today, I stood on the ground where our brothers and sisters were cruelly taken from us. This act of cowardice is an affront to our humanity and will not go unpunished.”

“To the bereaved families: Adamawa mourns with you. To the attackers: justice is coming. We will rebuild, and we will remain resilient.” He added that the state government is intensifying security operations in an effort to restore peace and prevent further attacks.

No group has officially claimed responsibility for the assault. However, the region has faced persistent insecurity for years, with frequent attacks linked to Boko Haram and other armed groups.

The attack comes just months after a similar incident in February, when more than 24 people were killed in Kirchinga village, Madagali LGA, where homes, shops and places of worship were also destroyed.

Reacting to the latest violence, Amnesty International described the killings as “horrifying” and called on authorities to strengthen protection for civilians and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
