Super bowl Champion Alshon Jeffery arrested

Former NFL star, Alshon Jeffery has been arrested in California on suspicion of insurance fraud, according to reports.

The 36-year-old, who won Super Bowl LII with the Philadelphia Eagles, was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and booked into jail around 8 a.m. He has since been released.

Authorities said Jeffery is also facing an additional allegation of concealment or failure to disclose an insurance benefit or payment. Further details surrounding the case have not yet been made public.

Under California law, insurance fraud is a felony offence and can carry a penalty of up to five years in prison, along with fines that may be double the amount involved in the alleged fraud.

Jeffery enjoyed a nine-year NFL career, playing for both the Chicago Bears and the Eagles. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2013 and played a key role in Philadelphia’s Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, recording three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown in the 41–33 win.

Before turning professional, he was a standout player at the University of South Carolina, earning All-American and All-SEC honours, with his jersey later retired by the programme. Jeffery has not publicly commented on the arrest.
