Former Real Madrid Manager Appointed Head Coach of Ghana’s Black Stars

The Ghana Football Association has officially announced the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the senior men’s national team, the Black Stars.

In a statement released by the federation read:

“Carlos Queiroz appointed Head Coach of the Black Stars 🇬🇭🌟 The experienced Portuguese tactician will lead Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing vast international and World Cup experience to the senior national team.”

What Queiroz said

Queiroz’s first words as Black Stars’ head coach was one of pride and determination.

“Dear All It is with a deep sense of gratitude to GFA, responsibility and humility that I embrace this new chapter with the National Football Team of Ghana.

Football has given me a lifetime of challenges, lessons, and unforgettable journeys, all over the world.

Today, I accept this mission with the same passion and commitment that have guided me throughout my career. Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing soul.

I arrive with respect for its history and belief in its future. Together, with unity, discipline, and ambition, we will work to honour the expectations of a great football nation.

This is not just another job it is a mission. And I am ready to give everything of my experience and knowledge once again, in service of the game and the happiness of People.

To the future, CARLOS QUEIROZ Head Coach, Black Stars.”

His contract is reported to be a short term four month deal, with the 73-year-old expected to arrive alongside five backroom staff members.

The agreement includes a performance based clause that could see him retain the role if Ghana reaches the semi-finals of the tournament.

Meanwhile he is set to earn a salary of around $90,000.

At 73, Queiroz brings over three decades of coaching experience, having managed the Iran national football team at three consecutive World Cups.

The Manager also guided Portugal to the round of 16 at the 2010 edition.

His club career includes a stint with Real Madrid, where he won the Supercopa de España in 2003,

At Manchester United, where he was assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson, Queiroz won multiple titles including three Premier League trophies and the UEFA Champions League in 2008.

His priority will be leading Ghana to a strong performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
