Nigerian activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has stirred debate after criticizing the accessibility of church-owned universities, particularly Covenant University.
He made this statement while being featured in a recent episode of the Honest Bunch podcast.
In the recent statement, Sowore questioned the disparity between the large followership of some churches and the affordability of the institutions they have established.
He argued that many devoted members who regularly attend services and contribute financially may not be able to afford tuition for their children in such universities.
His remarks were directed at prominent religious leaders, including David Oyedepo and Enoch Adeboye, as he raised concerns about inclusivity and the socio-economic gap within religious communities.

“You build Covenant university, and then ask poor people to come to church, you’ll go and drive them from Ajegunle with your Holyghost buses but their children cannot go to Covenant university. it’s the children of sinn£rs that ended up going to your university. Most of them are children of Alhajis steal!ng money in Abuja. People who come to church religiously and pay tithes and offerings that you ask from them, they can’t afford to send their children to your university.
Occasionally, they’ll the do charity and say that well, we gave scholarships to children of our church members. If you’re a member of Redeem….”
