A 15-year-old boy one identified as Gift Oberhirhi, has d!ed after he allegedly abused Dexamethasone tablets provided by his friend, 15 year old Destiny Akpofure.
The deceased without a doctor’s prescription, took the dr#g from the suspect and swallowed fifteen tablets. The victim subsequently fell ill and d!ed while being taken for medical attention.
Confirming the sad incident to newsmen, the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the matter was reported to the Orogun police division who immediately visited the scene, and evacuated the body to the General Hospital Mortuary, Orogun, for autopsy. Edafe said the suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody, while the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
Edafe stated that this incident reflects the serious public safety risks posed by the illegal distribution and misuse of drugs, hard drugs, controlled drugs and other substances, particularly among vulnerable groups. He added that it further underscores the urgency of ongoing enforcement actions aimed at disrupting the activities of those engaged in the unlawful sale and distribution of drugs.
