Former Chelsea FC star, Joe Cole has described Trevoh Chalobah as the club’s best central defender at the moment.
Cole, a long-time admirer of Chalobah, said it was a mistake to allow the defender go out on loan to Crystal Palace last season.
“He’s been impressive since he walked back in the door,” Cole said on the Dressing Room Podcast.
Reflecting on Chelsea’s defensive decisions in recent years, Cole questioned the club’s recruitment strategy, pointing to players like Marc Guehi, Chalobah, and Fikayo Tomori, who were allowed to leave, while significant money was spent on replacements.
He mentioned signings such as Benoît Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, and Kalidou Koulibaly, questioning how those decisions have played out over time.
“I still think Trevoh Chalobah is our best central defender, and he’s getting better and better. He understands the club — it was a crime to let him leave. He’s been brilliant and is improving constantly,” Cole added.
