Some X users have shared experiences highlighting the financial challenges many families face when dealing with medical emergencies.
One user recounted a case of a woman with antepartum eclampsia who had to undergo an emergency CS. According to the post, while the baby required admission into SCBU and the mother needed ICU care, the husband reportedly said he only had ₦9,000.
The post described the situation as a reflection of the reality many people are facing.
Another user shared a similar experience involving a newborn diagnosed with neonatal tetanus. According to them, the medical team had to source funds and items to begin treatment because the parents had no money.
They added that after raising ₦20,000 for the father to buy drugs, he declined and requested discharge instead.
According to the post, the man said he could not spend the money on one child while his other children were at home without food, adding, “Whatever happens to him, God knows best.”
