Sebastian Bach has issued an apology for his role in a decades-old incident involving Christina Applegate and Brad Pitt after Applegate recently revisited the moment in her memoir.
The episode dates back to the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, where Applegate attended the event with Pitt but left with Bach, the frontman of the rock band Skid Row. Speaking about the situation years later, Bach said he had been surprised when the story resurfaced following Applegate’s recent memoir.
He said: “I was very surprised when that all hit.” The singer explained that during that period he was touring and living the chaotic lifestyle often associated with rock musicians.
“I was a single guy on tour, in a band, and I met a lot of girls and I apologize if I hurt her, if I hurt anybody,” Bach said. He added: “When you’re young you get thrown into the whirlwind of rock ‘n’ roll, meeting a lot of people and you better hold on tight.”
Reflecting on the incident, Bach emphasised how long ago the situation occurred. “It’s like being on a roller coaster … It was a long time ago. If I hurt anybody, I apologize for it.”

Applegate recently revisited the moment in her memoir You With the Sad Eyes, recalling that she attended the 1989 awards show with Pitt but spent much of the night watching Bach perform. In the book, she wrote: “I had spent all night staring at Bach, who was then a long-haired hunk fronting the band Skid Row.”
Applegate also reflected on Pitt’s career at the time, writing that he had not yet become the global superstar he is today. “I hate to put it like this, but Brad back then was still making his way as an actor, and he wasn’t yet THE Brad Pitt, the man of so many people’s dreams.”

The actress admitted she impulsively left the event with Bach, leaving Pitt behind. She wrote that Pitt had to drive her mother home and was understandably upset about the situation, adding that the two did not speak for years afterward.
Looking back, Applegate acknowledged she had been very young at the time and later regretted the decision, particularly after learning that Bach was already in a relationship and had a young child. Over the years, all three celebrities moved on with their lives and careers, but the incident remains one of Hollywood’s more unusual early celebrity love-triangle stories from the late 1980s.
