Nigerians willing to leave Iran are being escorted across Armenian border - NIDCOM

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has said that Nigerians willing to leave Iran are being safely escorted to the border with Armenia by officials from the Embassy of Nigeria in Tehran.

In a statement shared on social media, the commission said the evacuation effort is aimed at ensuring a smooth and secure passage for citizens who want to leave the country amid the ongoing regional conflict.

According to the commission, no Nigerian in Iran has been directly affected by the hostilities so far, and government officials remain stationed at the border to receive and assist evacuees.

“The Federal Government is vigilant and effectively responding to the safety and well-being of Nigerians across the world,” the statement said. The commission added that the operation is being coordinated with authorities in Armenia to facilitate the safe movement of Nigerians crossing the border.

Meanwhile, at least one Nigerian has been identified among the 122 people injured after the interception of Iranian ballistic missiles in the United Arab Emirates.

The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed the injuries but did not specify the number of victims by nationality. Authorities have not yet confirmed how many Nigerians remain in Iran or other parts of the Middle East affected by the conflict.

However, some Nigerians living in Gulf states have urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to prepare repatriation flights for citizens seeking evacuation. The chairperson of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said earlier that evacuation flights would begin once regional airspace becomes safe.

She explained that repatriation cannot start immediately because many airspaces in the region remain closed due to security concerns. The commission has also shared emergency hotlines for Nigerians in the affected countries to contact for assistance and support.
