Bayern Munich manager, Vincent Kompany has criticized Jose Mourinho, saying the former Real Madrid coach made a “huge mistake” in handling the alleged racist incident involving Vinicius Junior.
The incident occurred during Real Madrid’s Champions League playoff match against Benfica, after the Brazilian winger scored the game’s only goal. Vinicius claimed he was subjected to racial abuse by Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni.
Following the match, Mourinho suggested that Vinicius’ goal celebration may have provoked the home fans.
Kompany spoke to the media, stating: “You have the leader of an organisation, Jose Mourinho, who attacks the character of Vinicius Jr by focusing on his celebration to discredit what Vinicius is doing in that moment. In terms of leadership, that’s a huge mistake and something we should not accept.”
