Ramadan: Kano Hisbah bans tricycle operators from wearing three-quarter trousers, playing music and carrying opposite genders

The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned commercial tricycle operators popularly known as (Yanzu Adaidaita Sahu) from wearing “three-quarter trousers” throughout the month of Ramadan.

The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahid Aminuddeen, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, said anyone caught violating the order would be arrested and prosecuted.

“Based on the directives of our Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the board would conduct a special Ramadan operation.

“The special operation will be carried out throughout the Ramadan period in all places where people engage in immoral acts,” he said.

According to him, the board has also banned tricycle operators from playing music which disturb passengers and other members of the public in the city.

Other things prohibited are the use of knockouts in any part of the city, indecent dressing that exposes the body, especially by young women, as well as putting phonographic posters and stickers on tricycles

Also prohibited are mixing opposite genders in tricycles as well as carrying passengers, male and female, by their sides.

Aminudeen warned that any tricycle operators found violating the order would face the full wrath of the law.

“The board has also concluded arrangements to deploy its operatives to various mosques where Tarawihi and Tahajjud (Special Night Prayers) are being conducted to work with other security agents to enhance security,” he said.

He said the board would not fold its arms and allow such bad behaviours and immoral activities of the tricycle riders to continue, especially during this sacred month of Ramadan.

Recall that the Hisbah board had recently launched an exercise christened “Operation Kau da Badala”, (Operation fight against immorality) in a bid to sanitise Kano State from immoral activities such as prostitution, drug abuse and other social vices among the youth.

He listed some of the alleged offences of the commercial tricycle operators to include “immoral haircuts, riding around wearing only shorts, using objectionable posters on their vehicles, mixing unrelated men and women, selling illegal drugs, and conveying women to places where they engage in immoral acts, among others.

Ramadan is a holy month devoted to fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayers, charity, and spiritual renewal. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and represents obedience, self-discipline, and total submission to God.
