Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has advised women not to rush into moving in with a partner too early in a relationship.
Speaking on the IMO podcast, Michelle said time and patience are important before taking such a big step.
“If it’s early in a relationship, you shouldn’t be moving in. I don’t care how much money he has, you do not know him yet!” she said.
She warned that moving in too soon could come with unexpected consequences.
“What will you do if you find out that he lied about something or is different from who you thought he was after moving in together? Moving in early is almost like signing a contract — you’re in for it. Why would you even consider that so soon?” she asked.
Michelle added that couples should give themselves more time to truly understand each other.
“I think you should wait for a couple of years because you barely know him. Get to know each other a few more years before considering moving in together,” she said.
