Claire Danes has revealed she burst into tears after discovering she was pregnant with her third child at the age of 44, describing the moment as overwhelming and completely unexpected.
Speaking on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, the actress said she called her OBGYN in what she described as “convulsive tears.”
“It was a pure meltdown,” Danes said. “None of this was by design. I didn’t know it was physically possible. I was 44.”
The Homeland star, now 46, welcomed a baby girl in 2023 with her husband, actor Hugh Dancy. The couple are also parents to two sons — Cyrus, 13, and Rowan, 7 — with roughly five-year gaps between each child.

Danes explained that her second pregnancy had been particularly challenging, revealing she underwent two rounds of IVF before conceiving Rowan.
“Rowan was very hard-earned,” she said.
She previously spoke about the surprise pregnancy on the SmartLess podcast, admitting she was initially “terrified,” despite the situation ultimately working out well.
Reflecting on her emotions at the time, Danes said she struggled with feelings of shame.
“I felt like I was naughty — like I’d been caught fornicating past the point I was meant to,” she said. “It was weird. I felt like I was stepping outside parameters I hadn’t even realized were there.”
Danes and Dancy, 50, have been married since 2009. She previously dated actor Billy Crudup, with whom she remains on friendly terms years after their highly publicized split.
