Nigerian singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has revealed that personal health issues and pregnancy delayed the release of her song ‘Where You Dey’ featuring Chike.
The track, initially teased last year, could not meet its intended release schedule due to the singer’s physical condition at the time.
Health struggles impacted music production
In a statement shared on her X (formerly Twitter) page on Friday, Simi said she battled sickness, fatigue, and nausea during the recording process, which affected both completion and promotion.
“I really, really, really wanted to drop this song last year… I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired and my body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to,” she explained, recalling the difficulty even in filming the snippet video.
Collaboration and self-production challenges
Simi praised Chike for his professionalism, noting he promptly joined her in the studio upon returning from a trip, unaware of her condition.
She also disclosed that she personally mixed and mastered the song despite disliking the mastering process.
“Watching this video back now, I can’t even understand where the energy came from… Even so, I decided to master it myself. I hate mastering, so I don’t know what I thinking,” she said.
The singer added that the release serves as a response to long-standing claims that she abandoned her music career for marriage.
She urged fans to appreciate the effort and resilience that went into the track, despite her personal challenges.
