The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that Wilfred Ndidi will succeed retired William Ekong as the new captain of the Super Eagles.
The 28-year-old midfielder was handed the armband for the Super Eagles after Ekong announced his retirement from international football on December 4.
In an official statement, the NFF announced Ndidi as captain with Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, and Victor Osimhen as assistants.
Besiktas midfielder Ndidi, 28, will lead the Super Eagles at the 2025 AFCON, which kicks off Sunday in Rabat, Morocco.
The former Leicester star is relying on the backing of his teammates to ensure a successful tenure.
“It’s a huge responsibility, with the help of the players everything will be smooth,” Ndidi told the Super Eagles media.
“I have had conversation with a couple of the players. Just to let them know the reason why we are. I also need their support as well. The staff as well, we are all in this together.
“We have conversation on the task ahead, and it is important for us to be together on the same page.”
