Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi and his Nice teammate take legal action after being attacked by their own fans

Super Eagles striker, Terem Moffi, and his OGC Nice teammate have taken legal action after being attacked by their own fans.

The attack occurred on Sunday, November 30, after their 3-1 defeat by Lorient.

It was gathered that when the Nice team bus arrived back at the club’s training ground after their defeat, around 400 angry supporters were there waiting for the players and staff.

According to Truibuna, Jeremie Boga and Moffi were punched, kicked and spat on, with some of the blows said to be to their genitals. It is also said to have had racist slurs thrown their way – Moffi played 90 minutes in the game, while Boga came off the bench.

The report said Boga has been put on leave for five days, while Moffi will be out of action until next Sunday. The latter reportedly needed the help of goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf to get into the training ground.

The players had been warned of a hostile reception when they left the airport for their training ground, yet still opted to head back to the venue.

When they arrived, two fan representatives were allowed onto the bus to air their grievances at the team’s poor form, but things took a dark turn as they exited.

It was also reported that Boga was attacked because he invited Marseille fans to the stadium earlier this month, who later allegedly mocked home supporters, while Moffi was allegedly seen laughing with former Lorient star Loic Remy after the defeat on Sunday.

Sporting director Florian Maurice is also said to have been attacked, despite security being present.

The club is owned by Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and is currently 10th in Ligue 1 after six consecutive defeats.

Confirming the incident, Nice said in a statement: ‘On Sunday, upon their return from Lorient, the Eagles were welcomed in front of the Training and Development Centre by a large gathering.

‘The club understands the frustration generated by the succession of poor performances and performances far removed from its values.

‘However, the incidents that occurred during this gathering are unacceptable. Several club members were targeted. OGC Nice offers them its full support and condemns these acts in the strongest possible terms.’
