A 33-year-old Nigerian man was fatally st@bbed by a Congolese national at a residential accommodation housing students and professionals in the United Kingdom.
Uchenna Okirie, known as Uche, 33, was found with a knife wound at Somerleyton House, on Somerleyton Street, Norwich, on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Police were called to Somerleyton House at around 5:am. When they arrived, emergency crews found Uche suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
Medics battled to save him but he sadly passed away from his injuries despite their best efforts.
Uche was a former postgraduate student at the University of East Anglia.
Norfolk Police said his next of kin in Nigeria have been informed of his d3ath.
The suspect, Benjamin Katabana, 27, of Somerleyton Street, Norwich, has been charged with m8rder and appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday, November 25.
A post-mortem examination indicated Mr Okirie’s cause of d3ath was a st@b wound to the chest.
Mr Katabana has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Norwich Crown Court on 30 January for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
Last year, Uche published a paper under the university’s name about the effect of climate change on health outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa.
According to Uche’s social media posts he volunteered for the British Red Cross.
