Fight for starting shirt - Fulham boss challenges Samuel Chukwueze

Fulham head coach Marco Silva has openly challenged Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze to fight for a starting role in the team after the player delivered a match-winning assist last weekend.

Chukwueze joined the West London club on a season-long loan this summer. The 26-year-old has primarily been used as an impact substitute, having made five substitute appearances for the Whites so far.

The Nigeria international was credited with a “wonderful assist” for Raul Jimenez’s late goal in Fulham’s crucial 1-0 victory over Sunderland last weekend. This marked the winger’s second assist for the Cottagers in the Premier League.

Following his performance, Chukwueze was voted Fulham’s Royal Caribbean Legend of the Match, beating out teammates Raúl Jiménez and Harry Wilson for the award.

Silva praised the winger for his impact since his arrival but clearly outlined the next step in his challenge:

“He (Chukwueze) had a huge impact. It was a great assist from him, and we’re pleased for him. Now we need him to start games and keep the intensity throughout the 90 minutes,” Silva told Fulham’s official website.
