
The police in Ondo on Thursday, October 16, arraigned a 60-year old man, Sunday Etim before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly r@ping a 15-year old girl (name withheld)
Etim, whose residential address was not disclosed, was charged with one count of r@pe by operatives of the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the Ondo State Police Command.
The prosecuting counsel, Supol Martins Olowofeso, said the defendant committed the offence sometime in September 2025 at about 6:00 a.m. at Emiloro Street in Akure.
Oluwofeso alleged that Etim had unlawful carnal knowledge of the 15-year old victim without her consent.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sectíon 3 (A&B) of the Violence Against Persons Prohíbition Law of Ondo State of Nigería, 2021.
The defendant’s plea was not taken.
The prosecution, through a formal application, requested that the court remand Etim in a correctional facility pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Counsel to the defendant, Kehinde Osadugba, prayed for a short adjournment so that his client could respond to the prosecution’s application.
Magistrate Taiwo Lebi adjourned the case to October 23, 2025, for the hearing of the remand application.
