Man jailed 8 months for impersonating police officer in Kano

A Kano Shari’a Court sitting in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State has sentenced a 33-year-old man, Nasiru Shitu, to eight months imprisonment for impersonating a police officer.

Shitu, a resident of Kofar Waika Quarters of Kano city, was arrested on Sunday, September 21, 2025, around 5:00 p.m. at Kofar Dawanau, dressed in a police uniform.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Shitu had been masquerading as a police officer to extort unsuspecting members of the public.

The prosecution counsel, Barrister Zaharaddeen Mustapha, charged him with impersonation, to which the accused pleaded guilty.

Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, Khadi Nasiru Ahmad Muhammad, convicted Shitu and sentenced him to eight months in prison with an option of a N70,000 fine.
