Afrobeats queen, Tiwa Savage, has finally addressed the long-standing rift between herself and fellow singer, Seyi Shay, shedding light on what truly caused their 2021 salon confrontation.
In a candid chat on Off Air with Gbemi O and Toolz, Tiwa revealed that the feud originated from a diss track and unfounded rumours suggesting she was sabotaging other female artistes.
The “Somebody’s Son” crooner dismissed the claims as completely false, emphasising that she has always championed women’s empowerment in the entertainment industry.
Clearing the air on ‘blocked bags’
Tiwa expressed her frustration over claims that she had allegedly “blocked bags” for Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani. According to her, the accusations were painful and baseless.
“I heard that they thought I blocked their bag. How? If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention the person so I can address it,” she said.
To drive home her point, Tiwa recalled losing a major endorsement deal to Seyi Shay in 2017 after her pregnancy. “I was taken off the Pepsi campaign when I had Jamil, and Shay was booked for it. So how am I stopping anyone’s bag?” she asked.
The feud that shook the industry
The fallout between both singers came to a head in 2021 when they clashed at a Lagos salon in a viral confrontation. The heated moment, captured on video, sparked widespread social media reactions.
Although Seyi Shay later claimed she tried to reconcile, Tiwa’s latest revelations suggest their misunderstanding ran deeper, fuelled by industry gossip and years of tension.
Despite the rift, fans continue to hope for a public reconciliation between the two stars who helped shape modern Nigerian pop music.
