Nigeria international Felix Agu has successfully undergone surgery to correct a syndesmosis ligament injury, also known as a high ankle sprain.
The Werder Bremen defender sustained the injury during the club’s recent Bundesliga match against St. Pauli last week. Further assessment confirmed the nature of the high ankle injury.
The injury is expected to keep Agu sidelined for a few months, meaning he will likely miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Werder Bremen confirmed the successful operation, sharing a picture of Agu after the procedure at the hospital. He will now begin his rehabilitation at the club in a bid to return to action as soon as possible.
Agu was initially included in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming matchday 9 and 10 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic, but was forced to withdraw following the injury.
