
A 30-year-old woman, Adama Hannafi, has committed su!cide in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the mother of four was found hanging from a tree at Sumore village on Tuesday afternoon, October 7, 2025.
According to the PPRO, investigation revealed that Hannafi had been battling mental illness prior to taking the drastic action.
“Today, 07th October 2025, at about 1500hrs, the Command received a report that one Adama Hannafi ‘f’ age 30yrs of Auyakawa village, Dutse LGA, who was said to be mentally unstable, committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree at Sumore village, Dutse LGA,” the statement read.
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of police personnel from Yalwawa Division rushed to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of the victim hanging.
“The body was carefully lowered and examined, and no foul play was suspected. The body was conveyed to Dutse General Hospital and confirmed dead by a medical doctor on call.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had been battling mental illness prior to the incident. The deceased left behind her beloved husband and four (4) children.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, psc, fdc, expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident and urged members of the public to always show care and attention to relatives or neighbors exhibiting signs of mental distress. He further advised families to seek medical and psychological support early enough to prevent similar occurrences.
“The Command also appeals to the general public to promptly report any unusual or distressed behavior noticed among individuals within their communities to the nearest police station or relevant health authorities for timely intervention.”
