A mother and father have tragically d!ed while celebrating their four-year-old daughter’s birthday, after drinking in a hot tub at a motel in Spain.
Military police officer Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, 37, and his partner Ana Carolina Silva, 41, who owned a nail salon, were found dead in Sao Jose, in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina
The couple had spent the day celebrating their daughter’s birthday at a food park, drinking alcohol, before later going to a nightclub and checking into the Dallas Motel.
They were last seen around 11:30pm, according to local reports. The next day, when they failed to pick up their daughter who had been staying with Jeferson’s sister, relatives raised the alarm and reported them missing.
The couple were later found dead with no signs of injury in their motel bathtub, where the water reached 50°C, while a space heater was also turned on high.
Chief Medical Examiner Andressa Boer Fronza said on October 1: ‘The cause of both deaths was exogenous poisoning, favouring the process of heatstroke with intense dehydration, thermal collapse, culminating in organ failure and death.’
Toxicology tests revealed traces of cocaine and very high blood alcohol levels.
The Civil Police carried out 16 forensic reports, examining the motel room, the couple’s car, and security cameras, and ruled out electric shock, drowning, carbon monoxide poisoning, or third-party involvement.
Chief of Police Felipe Simao Gomes said, ‘These circumstances, combined with the substances found on the bodies, led the Civil Police to conclude that the cause of death was sudden and not due to third-party intervention.’
Ana Carolina’s family issued a statement rejecting speculation that she was a habitual drug user and raised concerns about possible forced ingestion.
The couple had been together for nearly two decades and were parents to one daughter.
