Mariah Carey is clearing the air on one of the strangest stories tied to her long-running feud with Eminem.
Rumor had it that the beef between the two stars began after the rapper allegedly asked the pop diva to play his mother in the 2002 movie 8 Mile. Eminem, now 52, is just four years younger than Carey, who’s 56.
Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Mariah admitted there might actually be some truth to the story — but says she couldn’t care less.
“From what I heard, there is truth to that, but I don’t think that he actually—well, who knows who approached who?” she said.
When Cohen pressed if that sparked the feud, Carey brushed it off: “No, I mean, maybe, it depends what he’s thinking. I really don’t care. Like, whatever he’s said, then I’m that, fine. Not really. But that’s a rap lyric.”
The part eventually went to Kim Basinger, who is 15 years older than Carey, in the semi-autobiographical film about Eminem’s rise to fame.
Back in June, producer Damion Young recalled how Eminem had asked him to connect him with Carey, and during a phone call, allegedly told her directly: “I want you to play my mother.” Young claimed that triggered her insecurities at the time.
The pair’s fallout has since spanned over two decades, with both stars taking shots at each other in interviews and music — from Eminem name-dropping Carey on multiple tracks to Mariah firing back with songs like Clown and the now-infamous Obsessed.
