“Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy are my ‘troublesome friends’”

Nigerian rap superstar Olamide Baddo, has opened up on his relationship with fellow Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, describing them as “troublesome friends”.

Speaking on the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Olajide on Monday, Olamide, in Yoruba, said:

“Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are all my friends; they are just too troublesome. They are cool dudes; it’s just that sometimes many can’t align on so many things, and that’s fine.”

Unexpected Collaboration with Wizkid

Olamide also shared insights about his recent collaboration with Wizkid on the hit track Kia.

He revealed that their partnership developed spontaneously during the video shoot when he played Wizkid a few unreleased tracks from his album.

“We didn’t plan it that way, actually. It was just supposed to be Kia, and while on set, I was just playing some songs off my album for Wiz. Then, he heard Billionaire’s Club. He instantly connected with it and insisted on being part of it right away,” Olamide said.

He expressed gratitude towards Wizkid, calling him “a solid dude”and praising his support and friendship.

Olamide’s Legacy and Vision for Afrobeats

Beyond friendships, the interview highlighted Olamide’s impressive career spanning over a decade, featuring more than ten projects, global tours, and collaborations with international artists like Dr. Dre.

As a music executive, Olamide has nurtured some of Afrobeats’ biggest stars, including Fireboy DML, Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Young Jonn, and Asake.

Reflecting on his early struggles, he credited his faith and perseverance for his success.

Whatever it is you want to be in life, one thing you should not joke with is God… People shouldn’t undermine how far they can go with the blessings of the Lord and His grace,” he said.

Olamide also revealed his motivation to support young artists stems from his own challenges in gaining opportunities earlier in his career.
