Five police officers were shot in York County, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday afternoon, September 17.

Police were apparently serving a warrant when a shooter opened fire, hitting 5.

Three of the officers from the Northern York Regional Police Department are in grave condition, and another officer from the department is in critical condition, according to the sources.

One deputy from the York County Sheriff’s Office is injured, they added.

The alleged suspect is believed to be de@d from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the sources.

The first 911 call came in from North Codorus Township at 2:10 p.m., according to Ted Czech, with the York County Office of Emergency Management.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating, Czech said.

A heavy police presence was on the scene and a medical helicopter was seen leaving the area when WGAL crews arrived.

A spokesperson for WellSpan York Hospital said it was treating two individuals in relation to the shooting, both of whom are in serious condition.

“Enhanced security protocols” were put in place at the hospital, the spokesperson said.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro urged people in the area to follow directions from law enforcement in a post on X.

“I’ve been briefed on the situation involving law enforcement in York County, and am on my way there now,” Shapiro wrote.

Lt. Gov. Austin Davis and Attorney General Dave Sunday also posted to X asking local residents to stay away from the area. They also offered prayers to everyone involved.

The shooting prompted a shelter-in-place order for the Spring Grove Area School District, which was lifted just before 5 p.m.
