Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem on Wednesday. His condition remains unknown as police continue searching for the suspect.

The shooting occurred shortly after noon during a Q&A session with students. Witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot about two minutes into the event, striking Kirk in the neck. Chaos broke out in the quad near the campus food court as students and attendees scrambled for safety.

UVU spokesperson Scott Trotter confirmed the incident in a statement.

“On September 10, 2025, at 12:20 p.m., a single shot rang out in the quad near the food court on the Utah Valley University Orem Campus as Mr. Charlie Kirk began speaking at his planned rally. We can confirm that Mr. Kirk was shot, but we don’t know his condition. The suspect is not in custody. Police are still investigating. Campus is closed for the rest of the day.”

Authorities initially believed the shooter had been detained, but later clarified that the suspect remains at large. At least 60 emergency vehicles from multiple agencies — including Utah Highway Patrol, Orem, Provo, Lehi, Lindon, and Utah County Sheriff — responded to the scene.

Kirk, 31, co-founded Turning Point USA, one of the largest conservative student organizations in the United States. He is also a popular podcast and cable news host. Married with two children, Kirk has been a prominent figure in conservative politics, often addressing issues of free speech on college campuses.

The incident has sparked national concern, with conservative leaders urging prayers for Kirk’s recovery. Utah officials have also released statements condemning the attack and pledging support for the ongoing investigation.
