Parents are crying out over what they describe as “daylight extortion” from private schools, especially when it comes to textbooks.
One parent explained how she was forced to repurchase the same textbooks for her younger child, even though she had already bought them the previous year for her older one.
Her frustration? The books were designed for children to write inside, making them useless for siblings who come into the same class later.
“When we were growing up, we reused textbooks. My elder ones’ books came down to me. But now, it’s impossible because they are producing textbooks that double as exercise books. Why do they call them textbooks if children must write in them? Isn’t that what notebooks are for?” she lamented.
According to her, parents are left with no choice but to keep buying fresh copies every session, and many teachers in those schools cannot even afford the same costs they impose on parents.
“Imagine buying the same textbook four times because you have four children. If this is not extortion, what is it?” she added.
