The victim, identified as Uche Ejiofor, was discovered in a bush on Friday, August 22, two days after the incident, with his body bearing severe mutilations.
A source from the community told The Nation that Ejiofor’s colleagues found his remains while combing the area. “Yes, he has been found but in a gruesome state, his body was badly stabbed,” the source said. “We think they might have tried shooting him to death but couldn’t succeed, so they resorted to butchering him to death.”
The body has since been deposited in the morgue, according to an indigene of the area.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, August 19, 2025, when vigilantes attempted to prevent herders and their cattle from entering farmlands in the community. The confrontation led to Ejiofor’s abduction and the death of another vigilante member, sparking panic among residents.
Many locals fled their homes in the aftermath of the violence. One resident, expressing uncertainty about returning, said, “For me, I’m not returning soon, but I can go back in the morning. Sleeping there is what I can’t guarantee.”
The discovery of Ejiofor’s body has heightened tensions in the area, with residents calling for urgent intervention to prevent further escalation.
