A 41-year-old ice cream seller, Shazad Khan, was fatally stabbed in broad daylight in Monks Park, Wembley, United Kingdom, sparking a murder investigation by the Metropolitan Police. Officers were called to reports of a stabbing at around 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, where Khan was found with multiple stab wounds. He was treated by the London Ambulance Service but died at the scene.
A 26-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday, August 20, on suspicion of murder, while a 31-year-old woman was also detained at the scene for conspiracy to murder. Both remain in police custody.
Local residents described Khan as a well-known and beloved member of the community. Asim Mahmood Butt, 39, a childhood friend, said Khan had recently started selling ice cream and was recognized by his van, which featured a large teddy bear. “He’s a famous ice cream guy,” Butt said. “He started selling about a year ago. We all used to play cricket and football here. He was married and had a young daughter.”
Another witness reported that the van was towed away in the early hours of Wednesday, while police continued forensic examinations, including a blue tent and cordons in the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Waller said investigators are working “at pace to understand the circumstances around this sad event” and urged anyone with information, including doorbell or security camera footage, to come forward. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, the local policing commander for northwest London, said intelligence indicates there is no wider threat to the public, but confirmed residents will notice an increased police presence as investigations continue.
The Metropolitan Police have appealed for information from the public, asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them via 101 or online, quoting CAD6174/19AUG.
