The Yobe Hisbah Commission has destroyed large quantity of confiscated alcoholic drinks and charged suspected prostitutes to court.
The chairman of the Commission, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, August 20 stressed that alcohol consumption and prostitution are heinous acts prohibited in Islam.
“In continuation of its mandate to enforce the sanctity of Shari’a and the laws of Yobe State, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission on 19th August, 2025, carried out the destruction and burning of a large quantity of confiscated alcoholic drinks in Garin Alkali, Borsari Local Government Area,” the statement read.
“The exercise was conducted under the directive of the Hisbah Executive Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, who sent a high-powered delegation from the headquarters to represent him.
“The delegation included Sheikh Isah Chaga (Deputy Commander Zone C), Dr. Sulaiman Kawuwa (Director Hisbah Operations), Muhammad Musa Potiskum (Deputy Commander Zone B) in carrying out the destruction exercise in collaboration with security agencies and witnessed by members of the general public.
“Recalled that, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission has carried out a major raid in Garin Alkali aimed at curbing immoral and anti-social activities that are harmful to the moral fabric of society.
“The Commission also confirmed that 84 persons were arrested in connection with prostitution and alcohol-related offenses, comprising 34 men and 50 women alongside alcohol dealers during the operation.
“All the arrested persons have been charged before a competent court of law, while the houses used for the illicit activities remain sealed pending further directives from the Hisbah Commission.
“As part of the engagement, the Hisbah delegation paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bade, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Suleiman, where they expressed appreciation for his continued support and guidance to the Commission.”
Reaffirming the Commission’s position, Dr. Abubakar said Islam forbids alcohol consumption and prostitution.
“Allah SWT says: (interpretation of the meaning) “O you who have believed, indeed intoxicants, gambling, (sacrificing on) stone alters, and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid them that you may be successful.” (Qur’an 5:90),” he said.
“The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said: Allah has cursed intoxicants, the one who drinks it, the one who serves it, the one who sells it, the one who buys it, the one who makes it, the one for whom it is made, the one who carries it, and the one to whom it is carried.” (Abu Dawood).
“The Yobe Hisbah Commission further extends profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, whose unwavering support and encouragement remain the backbone of our operations.
“Without his consistent guidance, resources, and fatherly commitment to moral reawakening, these achievements would not have been possible.
“The Commission, therefore, credits all these successes to his visionary leadership and assures continued loyalty in advancing his drive for a disciplined, peaceful, and morally upright society.”
Dr. Yahuza Hamza, further assured the public that the Hisbah Commission will continue to stand firm in fighting immorality and unlawful practices, while urging the people of Yobe State to give their full support to the Commission in this noble duty.
