Afrobeats singer Fido has opened up about a bitter fallout with his former record label and management, accusing them of taking almost all of his advance payment and stalling his career progress.
Speaking during a recent radio interview, Fido claimed that out of a $20,000 advance, he only received about ₦1.5 million (roughly $1,000+), alleging that the team kept as much as 95% of the funds.
“I was transparent with them even when I was still with them, but they took all my advance from me… they gave me just ₦1.5 million out of $20,000,” he said, adding that there are facts to back his claims.
The interviewer then noted that the matter could potentially be resolved if their legal team steps in, especially since Fido’s contract had already been terminated. They suggested involving his current partners at Empire, alongside industry figures like MK, to move forward with existing projects and recover from the setback.
Fido explained that these disputes quietly held him back, even as people speculated about why his career momentum had slowed.
“People never knew what I was facing. They just thought, ‘Ah, this boy, this…’ But they never knew the battles behind the scenes,” he said.
