
The face of dreaded terrorist leader, Abubakar Abba, otherwise known as Mamuda, has emerged following his recent arrest by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.Â

According to the governor, Abba was captured in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State after weeks of surveillance .Â

Mamuda, described as a dreaded bandit leader, was said to have terrorised parts of Kwara and Niger States, particularly the Kainji axis, where he allegedly masterminded numerous attacks, kidnappings, and killings.Â

According to security analyst and counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, investigations revealed that he was a former member of the Abubakar Shekau-led faction of Boko Haram before relocating to the North West, where he entrenched himself in banditry.Â

His arrest, according to security sources, was the outcome of sustained intelligence operations targeting high-profile criminal elements across the region.Â

Mamuda is currently in custody as further investigations into his network and operations continue.
