A photo of Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, the ValueJet pilot who allegedly almost ran Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, a.k.a. K1 De Ultimate, over during a dramatic Abuja airport incident, has surfaced online, sparking waves of reactions on social media.
The controversy began after K1 was denied boarding ValueJet’s Flight VK 201 to Lagos for allegedly carrying alcohol in a thermoflask — a substance prohibited by the airline.
A viral video from the tarmac showed the music icon walking dangerously close to the aircraft as it prepared for takeoff, appearing to dodge the moving plane.
The alarming footage prompted the suspension of Captain Ogoyi and her co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, over alleged safety breaches.
Popularly nicknamed “Rantilicious” by friends and colleagues, Captain Ogoyi is the daughter of former Osun Central senator Felix Kola Ogunwale, who served in the National Assembly from 2003 to 2007.
With over a decade of flying experience, she began her aviation career at Arik Air before joining ValueJet.
In September 2021, she was promoted to full captain in a ceremony attended by industry leaders, including current NCAA Director General Captain Chris Najomo.
She is married to Isaac Ogoyi Jr., also a seasoned pilot, who has worked with Arik Air, RwandAir, and now Uganda Airlines.
The revelation of Captain Ogoyi’s identity drew immediate online responses, including from social commentator Isaac Fayose.
