The spokesperson of the Delta state police command, SP Bright Edafe, has said that preliminary investigation shows that the 11-year-old girl arrested and later bailed with N500, 000 at the Ekpan Police division , was being used to traffic hard drugs.
LIB had earlier shared the story of an X user crying for justice after the minor was apprehended with some ‘suspected drug traffickers’ while commuting in a tricycle in the Ekpan area of the state on Thursday, July 24. Read here.
The story received wide reactions with many Nigerians condemning the police for arresting a minor. The state police command then asked the young girl and her family to come to the police for an investigation to be carried out and their money refunded to them.
In a reaction shared on his X handle this evening, Edafe stated that the young girl upon interrogation claimed that her guardian sent her to pick up the hard drugs. He also mentioned that there is a video of the victim saying that she started picking up drugs for trafficking for her guardian last week and also gave the names of all the drugs apprehended in the tricycle. LIB gathered that the minor’s mother is late and that she has been living with the guardian who the police says recently introduced her to drug trafficking.
According to police sources, the guardian believed that policemen would not think of searching a minor so preferred to use her to traffic the banned substance.
Edafe’s update reads
‘’A woman whom the little girl identified as her mummy sent her to move drugs thinking she wouldn’t be searched being a little girl. The little girl herself identified the drugs as Molly, Csc codeine, and black diamond. When she was asked how long she had been helping the woman the little girl said she started last week. But what shocked me the most in her video confession is how she knows the names of these dangerous drugs at just 11 years old. If I am lying, let them come and prove me wrong. Perhaps the embarrassing video might just be published for all to see”
