Chiamaka Nnadozie was credited with the own goal in a third place game at the 2022 WAFCON between Nigeria and Zambia. The odd goal decided that encounter and registered Zambia’s first ever win against the record champions.
The Super Falcons went sent home and for the first time in the competition’s history Nigeria did not get a podium finish.
It was a bitter pill and Zambia still packs that threat. Barbra Banda and Rachael Kundananji have spearheaded the Copper Queens’ run in this campaign with the pair sharing six goals between them.
Later this Friday, when the teams return to action at the 2024 WAFCON, in a quarter-final clash for the ages, the stakes will be even higher.
Buoyed by the team’s pedigree and the quality of players, Chiamaka Nnadozie, who has kept a clean sheet in their opening three games, believes Nigeria will prove to be the ‘real Odogwu’.
Speaking with Brila.net, Nnadozie recognized the quality of the Zambian team, but is unfazed as she insists Nigeria will cope well with the threat of the Copper Queens.
‘We are super ready, trust me,’ the Super Falcons goalie stressed. ‘Our people say na during tough times we dey know the real Odogwu.’
‘Don’t judge us based on the group stage performances. This Zambia side is a good team no doubt, they’re fast, but, we are good and fast too and we promise you’ll see good football; the kind of football we played against Spain at the Olympics.
‘We will make sure to get the win for the fans.’
