As Lagos State prepares for its Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Lagos State Police Command has rolled out strict security measures, including a total restriction of vehicular movement across the state from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on election Day.
The spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed this in a statement, said the measure is part of its plan to ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly electoral process across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
The Police stated that all roads and waterways in Lagos will be covered under the restriction, and only vehicles providing essential services such as ambulances, fire trucks, and security patrol vehicles involved in the election process will be allowed to operate during this period.
Exempted from the movement ban are only accredited officials of LASIEC, election observers, and media personnel, provided they carry LASIEC-certified identification tags.
The statement also announced a strict ban on the use of armed escorts and private security aides at voting or collation venues. No principal, including politicians and public officials, will be allowed to arrive with armed personnel. The use of sirens and covered number plates in or around election centres has also been prohibited.
In a stern warning to would-be violators, the Police Command said anyone caught flouting the movement restriction or involved in electoral violence or disruption will be arrested and prosecuted without delay.
The command urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against involvement in violence, while also calling on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity via the emergency lines 08063299264 or 08065154338.
