Gunmen k!ll two farmers in Plateau, attack mourners during burial of the victims

Two farmers have been k!lled in a fresh attack along the Ganawuri-Tahoss road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Bature Iliya Adazaram, Secretary General of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust on Thursday said the deceased were ambushed and killed while returning from Ganawuri market on Wednesday around 5pm.

Chief Press Secretary to the Riyom local government chairman, Damba Dang, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

Explaining further on the incident, BYM said while mourners were about to bury the two deceased at the burial ground in Gwon village, gunmen in larger numbers attacked the area, forcing the mourners to flee.

The group explained that following the sound of the gunshots, personnel of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), stationed near the village responded swiftly to repel the attack.

“While hundreds of people gathered at the grave-side today, 26th June 2025, to bid farewell to the duo k!lled, the attackers, in their hundreds, went and attacked the mourners, who scampered for their dear lives as security agents from Sector 6 of Operation Safe Haven-OPSH speedily responded and brought the situation under control,” the secretary said.

The BYM secretary accused Fulani herders of launching the attacks.

Responding to the allegation, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), in Riyom, Bello Adamu, denied the allegation, describing it as unfounded.

“We are not a party to any attack in the said area. We have not attacked any mourners. It’s not the first time they would accuse Fulani of attacks in their community. Anytime they have problems within themselves or some criminal elements block the road, they attack us. We didn’t do anything,” the MACBAN chairman said.
