The Lagos Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, says the best person to tell a child’s real age is a mother and not a birth certificate.
Jimoh shared this opinion while speaking on Channels TV on Tuesday, April 22. He appeared on the TV station to address issues surrounding the 17-year-old viral sensation, Quadri Yusuf, who was arrested in January this year and was remanded in prison custody.
Following a public outcry, he was released last week from prison custody. In his interview with Channels TV this morning, the Police chief was questioned on why a minor was arrested, arraigned and remanded in prison custody.
Responding, he said
‘’The record we have is that the boy stated that he is 18 and the best person to tell you the actual age of a person is the parent, not birth certificate that the lawyer is parading. It should be investigated because birth certificates are not issued inside phones. We all know how birth certificates are issued. Even if it is declaration of age, it is equally not issued inside a phone”
Quadri became a viral sensation after he was captured on camera standing before Peter Obi’s convoy.
