Newcastle want to kickstart their fight against relegation by snapping up Arsenal outcast Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on loan, according to reports.

Aubameyang’s future at the Emirates looks non existent after he was stripped of the captaincy by manager Mikel Arteta following multiple disciplinary breaches and has not featured for the Gunners since early last month.

The Gabon striker has been released to play for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations with the former Dortmund star not likely to receive any game time in the near future, and Newcastle are keen to rescue him from his nightmare, as reported by the Mirror

Eddie Howe’s team have already sounded out Arsenal about the possible move, which would be a loan deal with a view to making it permanent for £20million at the end of the season.

Howe’s Newcastle are still battling for survival near the bottom of the table after winning just one game all season and he is desperate to use financial might of the club’s new Saudi owners by bringing in some top quality players this month.

Aubameyang would represent something of a coup for Newcastle and would become their first marquee signing since Public Investment Fund completed their takeover from Mike Ashley in October.

The 32-year-old has not enjoyed his most prolific season for Arsenal, scoring four Premier League goals from 14 games. Last season he scored a disappointing 10 from 29 games – a huge dip on his 22 from 36 matches in 2019-20.

He had been seen as Arsenal’s talisman over the last few years – helping them win the FA Cup in Arteta’s first season in charge, but a number of off the field incidents has seen his time in north London become tinged with bitterness.

Most recently he was fined by the club for arriving back to the club late after visiting his sick mother in France – the third time he has been punished for a disciplinary breach at Arsenal.

In February 2021 he was filmed posing with a tattoo artist during lockdown, and the following month he was left on the bench for the North London derby against Tottenham after arriving late to travel for the game.

AUBAMEYANG’S THREE STRIKES

FEBRUARY 2021

With the country in lockdown, Aubameyang was filmed posing with a new tattoo alongside a tattoo artist.

Arsenal investigated the incident to find out if lockdown rules had been breached but kept their findings in-house, with Arteta saying: ‘Whatever we do with our players we keep it internally.

‘It is true that there are a lot of members of our squad that have extended families at home and if any player does something that is not in the regulation obviously the club acts immediately – but always privately as well.’

MARCH 2021

Aubameyang was left on the bench for the north London derby due to lateness.

‘He was going to start the game,’ Arteta told Sky Sports. ‘We had a disciplinary issue. We have drawn the line and we move on. He is on the bench.

‘We have a process we have to respect for every game and that is it. We have a way of leaving together that we have to respect each other and that is it.

‘But he is an incredible guy and he is one of the most important players in the team, he is our captain, and we move forward.’

Arsenal won the game 2-1, with Aubameyang an unused substitute.

DECEMBER 2021

Having returned late from a pre-approved trip to France to visit his ill mother, Aubameyang has lost the captian’s armband at Arsenal and his future has been thrown into major doubt.

In a curt statement on Tuesday, Arsenal said: ‘Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered for selection for Wednesday’s match against West Ham United.

‘We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed. We are fully focused on tomorrow’s match.’
