Florida Governor Ron ReSantis has been caring for his cancer-stricken wife while his liberal critics like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Joy Reid accused him of going ‘missing’ during the Omicron surge that rocked the Sunshine State and the nation at large.

Fox News reports that a DeSantis spokesperson said the Republican governor joined his wife, Casey, to a cancer treatment on December 19, on the same day a handful of leftist pundits criticized the governor for going ‘missing’ when the state would have needed him the most.

In October, DeSantis revealed his wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer, with the 43-year-old had told the outlet that ‘the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as first lady.’

However, two of his most vocal critics, US representative for New York’s 14th congressional district, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, and MSNBC host and liberal political commentator Joy Reid, questioned DeSantis’s conspicuous absence amidst a growing state and nationwide threat in Omicron.

‘Hasn’t Gov. DeSantis been inexplicably missing for like 2 weeks? If he’s around, I would be happy to say hello,’ Ocasio Cortez tweeted.

‘His social media team seems to have been posting old photos for weeks.’

‘In the meantime, perhaps I could help with local organizing. Folks are quite receptive here :)’

‘Florida is clearly in crisis, which mainly at this point is a leadership crisis,’ Reid tweeted.

‘Would he pop back up to sue if the Biden administration were to send in federal testing and vaccine help?’

Reid added: ‘A governor, not governing during a crisis; and sunning his belly on vacation instead.’

Meanwhile, Jerry Demings, Democratic Mayor of Orange County in Florida, also took issue with DeSantis at a press conference on Tuesday, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise.

Demings suggest state residents ‘should be outraged’ with DeSantis not being in front of the media during the spike.

Demings claimed all residents of the Sunshine State should be ‘outraged,’ while asking the whereabouts of their governor.

‘Our residents, all Florida residents should be outraged, and they should ask the question, “Now, where’s our state? Where’s our governor?”‘ Demings said.

‘Where is Ron DeSantis now? When was the last time you saw the governor do a press briefing regarding COVID-19?’

‘DeSantis is the Nero of Ted Cruzes.’

DeSantis communications staffer Kyle Lamb came to the defense of his boss on Twitter against those who were questioning whether the governor was on vacation.

‘Just FYI, [DeSantis] is not on vacation. Literally no one from our office has said that he is,’ Lamb wrote.

‘Anyone pushing that could have easily seen the public schedule and seen that he’s taking calls and meetings this past week. Not having public events does not = “vacation.”‘

DeSantis will be making his first public appearance in two weeks Friday night at the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens.
