A Blackpool man has admitted to murdering his neighbour and hiding his dismembered body parts across two different counties.

William Wilkinson, 65, killed Eddie Forrester on September 1 this year, before hiding his body parts in the days that followed.

Eddie, who was originally from Scotland, was reported missing on September 2 after investigations showed he had not been seen since the previous day.

CCTV showed him walking down Scotforth Road, at around 1:30pm, before he disappeared. Wilkinson was arrested on suspicion of murder and the hunt to find Eddie’s body continued.

After disposing of his neighbour’s body, it is understood Wilkinson changed his hairstyle and shaved his beard in an attempt to disguise his appearance.

Images of a white Peugeot Boxer van, thought to be connected to the case, were circulated.

On September 16, human remains were found in land of Ashes Lane, Staverley, near Kendal. Police confirmed the body parts were believed to be Eddie.

He appeared in the dock at Preston Crown Court, wearing a grey fleece, red T-shirt and full beard to enter pleas to murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice by hiding Eddie’s body parts at locations in Lancashire and Cumbria.

He spoke quietly but clearly as he answered the charges.

The Honorary Recorder of Preston, Judge Robert Altham, remanded Wilkinson in custody and ordered him to return to court in January to be sentenced.

DCI Mark Haworth-Oates, from our Force Major Investigation, said: ‘William Wilkinsons plea today is in the face of overwhelming evidence against him.

‘Thankfully, his plea will spare Edward Forrester’s family and friends the ordeal of sitting through a trial and listening to the graphic details of how Edward was murdered, and in particular the way in which his body was then dismembered and deposited throughout the Blackpool and Kendal area.

‘I hope the guilty plea brings them some small comfort and they will look forward to the case being concluded at sentencing.’
