Woolworths has brought buying limits back on fifty products across its Victorian stores, including toilet paper, rice and pasta.

The supermarket giant announced a two per-person limit on selected products on Sunday as people resume panic buying due to lockdown restrictions.

Products including pasta sauces, canned food, frozen meat and eggs are on the restriction list.

Shoppers are also limited to one kilogram of meat and poultry from the butcher, and two kilograms of fresh carrots, onions and potatoes.

Claire Peters, the grocery chain’s managing director, said the rules would ensure more customers have access to food and essentials.

‘We understand this is an anxious time for our Victorian customers, but we encourage everyone to continue shopping as they usually would and only buy what they need,’ she said in a statement.

‘Stock will continue to flow from our distribution centres and as an essential service, Woolworths supermarkets remain open to support customers’ food and grocery needs.’

Ms Peters also reminded shoppers to adhere to social distancing and hygiene measures in stores.

Victoria was declared a state of emergency by Premier Daniel Andrews on Sunday, as the state’s worsening crisis shows no signs of ending.

Only 73 of the 671 new cases are linked to known and contained outbreaks or complex cases, with 598 under investigation.

Mr Andrews confirmed Melbourne will to go into strict Stage 4 lockdown from 6pm on Sunday until at least September 13.

Melbourne’s curfew will be in effect between 8pm and 5am every day.

Only one person in a household can go shopping per day and exercise is limited to one hour a day – both must be within 5km from home.
